பெருங்கடற் பரப்பில் சேயிறா நடுங்கக்
கொடுந்தொழின் முகந்த செங்கோல் அவ்வலை
நெடுந்திமில் தொழிலொடு வைகிய தந்தைக்கு,
உப்புநொடை நெல்லின் மூரல் வெண்சோறு
அயிலை துழந்த அம்புளிச் சொரிந்து,
கொழுமீன் தடியொடு குறுமகள் கொடுக்கும்
திண்தேர்ப் பொறையன் தொண்டி அன்னஎம்
ஒண்தொடி ஞெமுக்கா தீமோ தெய்ய;
'ஊதை ஈட்டிய உயர்மணல் அடைகரை,
கோதை ஆயமொடு வண்டல் தைஇ,
ஓரை ஆடினும் உயங்கும்நின் ஒளி' எனக்
கொன்னும் சிவப்போள் காணின், வென்வேற்
கொற்றச் சோழர் குடந்தை வைத்த
நாடுதரு நிதியினுஞ் செறிய
அருங்கடிப் படுக்குவள், அறன்இல் யாயே

In the wide expanse of the great sea, making red prawns tremble, / having gathered [them] in a cruel work, the beautiful net with straight rods / is laid down along with the trade of the long boat for her father; / white boiled rice from paddy bartered for salt, / poured over with fine sour tamarind soup stirred with ayilai fish, / is served together with fat fish meat by the young daughter / in Toṇṭi of Poṟaiyan with sturdy chariots, resembling our / bright-bangled girl; do not crush her [bracelets]!
'On the shore adjoining tall sand gathered by the winter wind, / fashioning toy houses in wet sand with your garlanded playmates, / your lustre fades even if you play the ōrai game,' / she says, reddening in rage without cause; if she sees [this], / more securely guarded than the wealth brought from conquered realms / stored in Kuṭantai by the victorious Cōḻas of winning spears, / my mother devoid of righteousness will place her under strict confinement!
