With a coral-red mouth possessing teeth that shine bright with laughter, / resembling the tender spires of green reeds growing in watercourses, / with breasts budding on her chest, bamboo-like shoulders, / dark-petaled, rain-soft eyes like a pair of blossoms / of dark-stemmed blue water lilies bound together—with that dark-skinned woman / the secret union, which even spirits did not know, / having been revealed and spoken about loudly like a war drum, / since it was hard for us to go away in concealing secrecy, / like a woman bathing in the deep, swirling torrent / of the great Kāvērī river swelling with swift waters, / she embraced me to relieve her trembling distress, / and pressed her chest against me yesterday— / resembling the divine image painted / to grace the wide slopes with gleaming waterfalls / of the Kolli hill belonging to Poṟaiyan with an army of tuskers and winning spears, / that dark maiden exalted in her sweet simplicity!
