Listen, may you live, daughter! Leaving the boundary of this blessed house / in loneliness, that she crossed the high mountain with him— / I do not grieve for that; I grieve / over this: where the black-necked red junglecock male / scratches the dust with his little simple hen, / as the sun beats down spreading over the dust of golden hue / kicked up by the bent feet of the fierce-eyed elephant resting its long trunk / in the great dawn of daybreak, / having crossed such a terrifying forest, / resting at night in a noisy small village / of fierce forest warriors who have brought many milk-cows together, / which, seeing not their calves, bleat in sorrow with mournful eyes and drooping ears / filling the village common, / in the stump-legged hut of an old, wise woman, / as he lulls to sleep my fragile innocent girl resembling a gentle peacock / with his shoulder as her pillow, she who cannot sleep, / 'Will she hear the drum beaten for seizing cows / by hunting cattle-thieves with strung, harsh bows?'— / thus my heart weeps!
