The ancient word spoken by many has indeed come true for us, my friend:
"Eminent people who have begotten blameless sons,
whose sight is longed for even by enemies,
shine with renown in this world and attain the next world without blemish!"
Desiring to hold a wedding yesterday with another woman,
wearing fresh ornaments, the man with garlands on his chest passed by this street.
Seeing our bright-eyed little son, who ran stumbling with desire to see him,
as the bells of fine craftsmanship rang out, he ordered, "Hold the tall chariot, charioteer!"
and descended, and without delay embraced him so that his jewel-like red mouth touched his chest.
When he gave him back, saying, "Go inside now, my lord!", the boy refused and wept,
and like the owner of great wealth prevented [from leaving], he came inside himself along with his son.
Ashamed that I had brought this about, I chided him: "It seems this cruel man has troubled him!"
and approached with a stick to strike him. But then,
though the sweet rhythms of sounding muḻavu drums resounded in his [new] bride’s home,
as if calling him, he did not depart,
his old tender affection, bestowed upon us in that assembly of kaḻaṅku games of old, distressing him:
Did he not abandon the wedding he had arranged?
