Where calves taste the round base of the churning staff / that churned sweet curds, under a straw thatch / hanging over the front yard of a grass-roofed hut, / in a poor little village you stayed through the night; / then set out at early dawn when the long-necked rooster calls atop tall trees; / before you, the beat of the left head of the taṇṇumai drum, / raised in the rock-built hamlet of cruel-eyed warriors, / struck terror in the hearts of travelers through the arid wilderness, / resounding at the crossway near the hill in that desert pathway— / you truly suffered for a very long time! Therefore, / rejoice now—long may you live, my heart!— / in the expansive mansion reaching up to heaven where blemishless lamps shine, / praising the beauty of the freckled, shapely breasts / and embracing the long, bamboo-like beautiful arms / of our beloved with low-falling, dark tresses!
