“Father of thoughts, lord of creatures!” [With the words,] “A giver of life are you to us, you are Gharma, a giver of luster; you are our father, be our father!” he seeks this blessing for himself. [With the words,] “Homage to you! Do not harm me!” [it is] for the non-injury of himself. [With the words,] “Together with Tvaṣṭṛ may we worship you,” [it is] for procreation, for from him these creatures are born. The head of the sacrifice indeed was severed. At that time, the two Aśvins were non-drinkers of the Gharma, [merely] physicians of the gods. The gods said to them: “You two are physicians; put this head of the sacrifice back in place.” The two said: “Let us choose a boon; let the Pravargya belong to the two of us alone.” The gods said to them: “You two have embraced everything; let there be a share for us here too.” The two said: “Let it be milked first for the two of us; let it be offered first for the two of us.” Therefore, it is milked first for the two of them, and offered first [for them], for it was chosen as a boon by the two of them. The two put the head of the sacrifice back in place. From it, what blood flowed together, from that the udumbara tree arose. When the vessels are made of udumbara wood, he places nourishment right into the sacrifice. What sap there was, that is the muñja grasses; therefore they make the veda broom out of muñja. He calls out: “Come, O so-and-so!” Thus he calls her from the sky. “Come, O so-and-so!” Thus he calls her from the intermediate space. “Come, O so-and-so!” Thus he calls her from the earth. The sacred word is her calf, the Vedas her udders. With the sacred word as the calf, the gods milked speech, cattle, and immortality. Whoever knows the secret names of the Vedas attains a full lifespan, becomes endowed with priestly splendor, finds firm support, and becomes possessed of food, an eater of food. “One is blessing-bringing, one finds wealth, one gives bountifully, one nourishes all.” These indeed are the secret names of the Vedas. He attains a full lifespan, becomes endowed with priestly splendor, finds firm support, and becomes possessed of food, an eater of food, who knows thus. “That breast of yours which is ever-flowing, which brings blessings, which yields treasure, finds wealth, and gives bountifully,
