Then in a series of sacrificial days he should place it on the fire […] of the Pravargya […] he obtains priestly splendor. In the Vaiśvadeva [rites] […] the morning one, in the Varuṇapraghāsa rites the afternoon one, in the Mahāhavis the morning one, in the Śunāsīrya the afternoon one. In this very [fire], before the purificatory bath, he heaps up the vessels. To the south he pushes near the Āhavanīya fire; he heaps up the vessels. To the west he scatters near the Āhavanīya fire; he conceals the vessels, or they should carry them to an island. That sun is Rudra, the Mahāvīra, splendor. He obtains priestly splendor. Concerning this they say: 'Priestly splendor is indeed not obtained by one who has not sacrificed with Soma.' He should perform the Jyotiṣṭoma along with the Pravargya; he places priestly splendor in its own source; he becomes endowed with priestly splendor. The Udgātṛ sings these surrounding sāmans; he sings them indeed for the success of the Pravargya. There is the Śārga sāman; he sings it while it is being anointed. The Śārga is indeed fiery energy; he makes him prosper with fiery energy. There are the Śukra and Candra sāmans; he sings them over the two pieces of gold; this [silver one] is the Śukra, that [gold one] is the Candra; with them he makes him prosper. There are the two Tanū sāmans of the Gharma; he sings them while it is being heated; he makes him prosper with his own body. […] There are the two Vratapakṣa sāmans; he sings them while it is being carried over. At this time the rakṣases are indeed about to consume the entire Gharma. The two Vratapakṣa sāmans are an intoxicating thunderbolt, for the destruction of the rakṣases. There are the two Aśvināvvrata sāmans; he sings them when it has been offered; he sweetens it. This is his accompaniment in singing; moreover, they make amends to him. There are the two Rājanarauhiṇa sāmans; he sings them over the two puroḍāśas. The two eyes of the Pravargya are the sun and the moon; the two eyes are the two Rājanarauhiṇa sāmans; he places sight in the two eyes. There is the Āṅgirasa sāman; he sings it when the parigharmya [pot] is being mounted [on the fire]. The Aṅgirases went from here to the heavenly world; by means of this sāman they went upwards to the heavenly world.
