7.23

Now, the kṣatriya belongs to Indra by deity,
to the triṣṭubh by metre, to the fifteenfold by chant,
to Soma by royal dignity, and to the nobleman by kinship.
When being consecrated, he enters into the state of a brāhmaṇa, in that he puts on the black antelope skin,
in that he observes the vow of the consecrated,
and in that brāhmaṇas gather around him.
When he is being consecrated, Indra takes away his power, the triṣṭubh his virility,
the fifteenfold chant his life-span, Soma his royal dignity, and the ancestors his fame and glory,
saying: 'This one has become different from us, he has become brahman,
he has turned to brahman.'
Having offered an oblation before the consecration, he should attend upon the āhavanīya fire:
'I do not depart from Indra as deity, nor from the triṣṭubh as metre, nor from the fifteenfold chant,
nor from King Soma, nor from my ancestral kinship.
Let not Indra take away my power, nor the triṣṭubh my virility,
nor the fifteenfold chant my life-span, nor Soma my royal dignity, nor the ancestors my fame and glory.
Together with power, virility, life-span, royal dignity, fame, and kinship, I approach Agni,
the gāyatrī metre, the threefold chant, King Soma;
I resort to brahman, I become a brāhmaṇa.'
Indra does not take away his power, nor the triṣṭubh his virility, nor the fifteenfold chant his life-span,
nor Soma his royal dignity, nor the ancestors his fame and glory,
for him who, being a kṣatriya, offers this oblation and attends upon the āhavanīya fire before consecrating himself.
