Now, this third pressing is, as it were, cut off from the midday pressing. The gods, perceiving this, knew: 'This third pressing is indeed, as it were, cut off from the midday [pressing].' They saw this sāman. With it they joined this together. Since they joined it together, that is the essence of the Saṃhita. Joined together and uncut-off becomes this third pressing of his who knows thus. Now the Uṣṇih and the Kakubh: Standing on the two Gāyatrīs, Indra raised the vajra against Vṛtra. The two did not lift him up. On them he placed the four-footed cattle: the cow, the horse, the goat, and the sheep. They lifted him up. Standing on the Uṣṇih and the Kakubh, having made the Sabha and the Pauṣkala his two arms, he struck [Vṛtra]. He slew him. He slays his rival enemy who knows thus.
