upāsmai gāyatā naraḥ iti grtāmakāmo bhūtikāmaḥ prajananakāmaḥ pratipadaṃ
kurvīta
asyai vāvedamupagāyanti
upa vāvedamasyāṃ sarvamupaivāsyāṃ prajayā paśubhiḥ prajāyate ya evaṃ veda
naro ha vai devaviśaḥ kṣatraṃ soma induḥ
viśaṃ caivaitena kṣatraṃ cāvarunddhe
abhi devaṃ iyakṣate iti sarvā evaitena devatā anantarāyamabhiyajate
upo ṣu jātamapturamiti prajākāmaḥ pratipadaṃ kurvīta
upeva vā ātmanprajayā paśubhiḥ prajāyate
etāṃ evāparedyuḥ pratipadaṃ kurvīta
apturamiti hyasyā āptvā śreyāṃsaṃ vasīyānātmanā bhavati
gobhirbhaṅge pariṣkṛtamiti
yajño vai gobhirbhaṅgaḥ paśavaḥ pariṣkṛtaḥ
yajñaṃ caivaitena paśūṃścāvarunddhe
induṃ devā ayāsiṣuḥ iti
yajamāno vai somo rājendusstomā devāḥ
stomā evainaṃ svargaṃ lokaṃ gamayanti

“Sing towards this one, O men”: one desiring cattle, desiring prosperity, desiring procreation should make this the opening verse. / Towards this [earth], indeed, they sing. / Everything here approaches this [earth]; he is propagated with offspring and cattle on this [earth] who knows thus. / “Men,” indeed, are the divine clans; the ruler is Soma, the drop. / By this he secures both the clan and the ruler. / “They desire to sacrifice towards the god”: by this he sacrifices without interruption towards all the deities. / “Him born swift to the water”: one desiring offspring should make this the opening verse. / He is propagated, as it were, in himself with offspring and cattle. / On the following day he should make this very same the opening verse. / For by saying “swift to the water,” having obtained what is superior in this, he becomes wealthier in himself. / “Prepared in the surge with cows”: / the sacrifice, indeed, is the surge with cows, [for] cattle are prepared. / By this he secures both the sacrifice and cattle. / “The gods have reached the drop”: / the sacrificer, indeed, is King Soma, the drop; the gods are the stomas. / The stomas make him go to the heavenly world.
