The sacrificial session. Now, this thirteen-night rite. Yonder Āditya was indeed equal to the other gods—to this Agni, to Vāyu, to Candramas, to the other gods. He desired: 'May I attain pre-eminence among all the gods; having become the thirteenth month, may I ascend over all this.' He saw this thirteen-night rite. He undertook it. Thereupon he attained pre-eminence among all the gods. Having become the thirteenth month, he ascended over all this. All this is indeed the year. They are all the stomas, all the pṛṣṭhas, all the meters, all the pressings, all the gods, all the worlds, all the desires. Having obtained the twelve months with twelve days, he, having become the thirteenth month with the thirteenth day, ascended over all this. Those who, knowing thus, undertake the thirteen-night rite, prosper in this very manner; they go to the same world as this [Āditya].
