The Ādityas and the Aṅgirases vied with one another for the heavenly world. The Ādityas reached the heavenly world first. The Aṅgirases desired, 'May we also reach that world which the Ādityas reached.' By whatever course they came, from that they thrust them back. For more than forty years they repelled them. They saw this course [of sacrifice]. They sat down to it. Just as it was seen, so they undertook it. Thereupon the Aṅgirases reached that world which the Ādityas [reached]. That is indeed the best of prosperities, that the holiest of worlds, which the Aṅgirases reached by this. [Thinking,] 'May we reach that which is the best of prosperities, that which is the holiest of worlds, which the Aṅgirases reached by this,' [they perform it].
