On the day they omit, they should offer in the forenoon an eight-pot-sherd cake to Indra with the Vasus;
at midday, an eleven-pot-sherd cake to Indra with the Rudras;
in the afternoon, a twelve-pot-sherd cake to Indra with the Ādityas.
The pressings are the share of these deities; thus they do not depart from the pressing for them, nor do they exclude the deities.
Prajāpati, indeed, is this year.
His in-breath and out-breath are these full-moon and new-moon days.
When they omit the full-moon and new-moon days, they omit the in-breath and out-breath of Prajāpati himself.
These they perform as a twenty-four-night rite at the end of the year.
And they also say: 'Only the full-moon days are to be omitted.'
The full-moon day has breath as its portion, the new-moon day has out-breath as its portion.
Men subsist on the breath that is outside, and on the out-breath that is inside.
When they omit the full-moon days, [it is with the thought:] 'Let us subsist on the breath that is outside, and on the out-breath that is inside.'
These they perform as a twelve-night rite at the end [of the year].
