On this they say: Since other sacrificial sessions are designated by nights, why then is the twelve-day rite designated by days? He should say: The All-Gods, having approached father Prajāpati, said: 'How great are you, sir?' He said: 'I am the twelve-day rite.' In that he said, 'I am the twelve-day rite,' that is the twelve-day nature of the twelve-day rite. Prajāpati was indeed this year. It was to these twelve months that he then said: 'I am the twelve-day rite.' On this they say: What is 'two' (dvāḥ)? What is 'ten' (daśa)? What is 'day' (ahar)? He should say: Āditya is the two [or the door, dvār]; Āditya is the ten; Āditya is the day. In that Āditya is the door (dvār), he indeed is the door of the heavenly world. Now, in that Āditya is the ten, he indeed shines in these ten quarters. Now, in that Āditya is the day, he indeed is the day. On this they say: Should one officiate with the twelve-day rite, or should one not? 'One should not,' he should say.
