The Bṛhat is its pṛṣṭha, the Vāmadevya is the Maitrāvaruṇa's sāman, the Śyaita is the Brahman's sāman. That [sky] yonder is the Bṛhat, the intermediate space is the Vāmadevya, this [earth] is the Śyaita. This is the body of the Rathantara. This is the fitting arrangement, leading to heaven. By this very arrangement, they ascend together to the heavenly world. The in-breath, out-breath, and diffused breath are united; they circulate here and beyond, unexhausted. Those who praise with this become possessed of long life. Its stotras are of two kinds: some have twenty-four verses, some have thirty-six verses. There, those that have twenty-four verses—the year has twenty-four half-months—by means of them they reach the year half-month by half-month. Now, those that have thirty-six verses—the Bṛhatī meter has thirty-six syllables; the heavenly world is the Bṛhatī, universal sovereignty—so they go establishing themselves in the Bṛhatī, in the heavenly world, in universal sovereignty. Moreover, by this thirty-six-verse stoma, the year is grasped by them joint by joint: twelve are the full-moon days of the year, twelve the aṣṭakā days, twelve the new-moon days. Thus, by this thirty-six-verse stoma, they grasp the year joint by joint.
