pālāśīṃ samidhamājyenāktvā madhyandine 'bhyādadhāti imaṃ stomamarhate jātavedase radhamiva sammahemā manīṣayā \

Having anointed the palāśa fuel-stick with clarified butter, he places it on [the fire] at midday [with]: 'This praise to worthy Jātavedas, like a chariot, let us fashion with our intellect; / for auspicious is our mindful care for him in the assembly; O Agni, in your friendship may we not suffer harm, svāhā.' Then behind the fire he spreads out the reed grass with its tips turned northward.
