atha mātā śucinā vasanena kumāram ācchādya dakṣiṇata udañcaṃ kartre prayacchaty udakśirasam;

Then the mother, having dressed the son in a clean garment, hands him, from south to north, with his face turned to the north, to the performer (of the ceremony).
