Ibn al-Ḥakīm said: This Sultan, the ruler of Delhi, has an extraordinary generosity, and his beneficence to strangers is immense. A certain scholar from the lands of Persia came to him and presented him with books of philosophy, among them al-Shifāʾ of Ibn Sīnā [1]. It happened that when he stood before him and presented it to him, a splendid load of precious jewels had been brought to [the Sultan], and he scooped out a handful of it and gave it to him; it was worth twenty thousand mithqāls of gold, besides the rest of what he bestowed on him.
