MAN. The romantic and conventional treatment is seen in Pl. XVI., of a forest scene, a ceiling painting. There is also a human figure between two elephants in Pl. VII., 9. One style of brass box (*heppuva*) of the Dutch shape has human figures with guns, riding Design and horses, etc., and seems to show European influence, as does another in my possession, ornament showing figures and horses amongst foliage in a Renaissance style. The *jātaka* decoration of Figs. 5, 11 and 28, is however, purely Sinhalese.
