Clive spent about a month in quieting the ruffled feelings of the various parties and impressed upon them that a new era of peace and good-will had taken the place of that of a ruinous war. He recognized the power of the Emperor himself, but removed the two Nawabs from his control. As the former was impatient to go to Delhi, Clive assured him that this would be accomplished as soon as circumstances permitted. Raghunathrao appeared on the scene only a few months after these important transactions, but he hardly understood the significance of the changes and concerned himself with the usual old routine of internal politics.
