The Gaṅgādhara group is also beautifully done. Śiva is engaged simultaneously in receiving the Ganges on his locks of hair and in pacifying Pārvatī who took objection to that action of her Lord. This icon has been a favourite with Śaivites in all ages. A magnificent and unparalleled representation of this theme is found in the Mahendravarman’s cave temple at Tiruchirapalli.
