**Adulteration.** Lastly, public health was sought to be protected by punishing adulteration (*Samavarṇopadhānaṁ tulyavarṇaiḥ hīnamūlyaiḥ dhānyādibhiḥ miśraṇe*) of food products of all kinds e.g. grains, oils, alkalies, salts, scents and medicines [IV. 2].
