**Superintendent of Shipping** (*Nāvādhyaksha*) [II. 28]. He had to control all traffic and transit by water ways, riverine as well as oceanic, from the sea to its coast (*samudra-saṁyāna*), or where the river falls into the sea (*nadīmukha*), or on lakes (*deva-sara*) and tanks (*visara*), wherever situated, at the centres of administration and population of the provinces.
