The material culture associated with the c. Indian megaliths has been known from the excavations of some of the typical sites like JUNAPANI, MAHURJHARI, TAKALGHAT, KHAPA and NAIKUND. Of these JUNAPANI has nearly 300 stone circles whereas TAKALGHAT and NAIKUND are both habitation and burial sites. Another noteworthy site from the point of view of the number of Megalithic monuments is DHANORA³, about 80 km s. of Raipur, where 500 stone circles have been noted. Another site of similar magnitude is Simareea, about 24 km from Rewa, where for several km one sees flattish mounds or barrows surrounded by parallelogrammatic enclosures. It may however be mentioned that an exhaustive documentation of the Megalithic monuments in c. India has not yet been done but it is certain that the region is full of them.
