Choppers and handaxe-cleavers have been found on the terraces on the BANGANGA, NALAGARH on the SIRSA and Saketi area on the MARKANDA, all in Himachal Pradesh. All these terraces have been cut into fluvio-glacial cone deposits. It is not possible at the moment to understand the relationship of the terrace sequence in this periglacial region with the Pleistocene glacial sequence. As stratigraphically these terraces are of the late Middle to the Upper Pleistocene Age, the industries lying on their surfaces should be of a comparable period. Since the terrace deposits are unfossiliferous and the tools are rarely found buried in them the terrace sequence by itself has no stratigraphic significance and is of little use in the tracing of different cultural stages.
