Rarely Lower Palaeolithic tools are found on the hills in thickly forested areas like BHIMBANDH in Dt Monghyr and MALVAN in Konkan. Their occurrences have been noticed at the foot of the hills as well as on the talus slopes and in hill-wash gravels in the Garo Hills of Meghalaya. Tools are found in the secondary laterities or lateritic gravels in the Mayurbhanj area and POONDI, ATTIRAMPAKKAM and VADAMADURAI sites near Madras. At MALVAN tools are found on a lateritic plateau.
