The Kathāvatthu refers to another cause for the fall of an arhat, viz., (i) kammahetu arahā arahattā parihāyati (an opinion of the Pubbaseliyas and Sammitīyas). It means that the fall of an arhat is sometimes due to the deeds of his previous lives, e.g. of having calumniated an arhat. It also warns the opponents particularly the Pubba- and Apara-seliyas and Uttarāpathakas about impostors passing as an arhat and committing abrahmacariya offences (vide Kvu., II. 1 & XXIII. 2).
