v2.c42.s2.t5.57

They sold the empire to the highest bidder, and they murdered the emperors who refused to comply with their demands. The reign of Pertinax, who attempted to reform their discipline, was short and bloody; and the sale of the empire to Didius Julianus, by the prætorians, is one of the most disgraceful events in the annals of history.
