Summing up the proceedings of the 1979 international conference of archaeologists in Kashmir, R.H. Dyson (1982) reported the ‘paradigm changes in the study of the Indus civilization’. Some of the earlier concepts (Piggott, 1950) such as sudden origin and sudden collapse of the Indus civilization, the latter ‘caused by the invasion of the Indo-Aryans in second millennium BC’, are being universally abandoned.
