Only a few metallic ore mines in India have been C-14 dated (vide Table 17.1). Unfortunately, many ancient mine-sites have been incorporated in the modern mines and thus lost for investigation. Biological residues were not preserved for C-14 dating, and thus such ancient workings remain undated. Several copper mines of this category are listed in Table 17.2. Numbers 34 and 35 yielded lead and silver; gold was extracted from No. 38.
