This author stressed the following points: Pañcaśikha mentions neither avyakta nor puruṣa; Caraka mentions ahaṃkāra, which is absent from Pañcaśikha's scheme; the svabhāva of Pañcaśikha is absent from Caraka's scheme; the descriptions of the state of final emancipation differ; S. Dasgupta's interpretation of puruṣāvastham avyaktam (puruṣa in the state of avyakta) is wrong and not supported by any of the commentators; the obscure expression does not mean that Pañcaśikha identified puruṣa and avyakta (V.M.
