4.29

「爾時惡友，齎持寶珠，歸還本國，與父母相見，白言：『父母！我身福德而得全濟；善友太子與諸徒伴，薄福德故，沒水死盡。』父母聞是語已，舉聲大哭，悶絕躃地，以冷水灑面，良久乃穌。父母語惡友言：『汝云何乃能持是面來？』惡友聞是語已，心生懊惱，即以寶珠埋著土中。

"At that time, Pāpamitra, carrying the treasure pearl, returned to his home country. Meeting his parents, he said: 'Father and Mother! Through my own merit, I was able to survive. But because Prince Kalyāṇamitra and all his companions had little merit, they drowned and died to the last man.' When the parents heard these words, they raised their voices in loud weeping, swooned, and collapsed to the ground. Cold water was sprinkled on their faces, and only after a long time did they revive. The parents said to Pāpamitra: 'How could you show your face here?' When Pāpamitra heard these words, he felt remorseful and troubled, and he immediately buried the treasure pearl in the ground.
