4.30

「爾時善友太子被刺兩目，乾竹刺著，無人為拔；徘徊宛轉，靡知所趣。當時苦惱，大患飢渴，求生不得，求死不得，漸漸前行，到利師跋王國。利師跋王有女，先許與波羅奈王善友太子。利師跋王有一牧人名留承，為利師跋王，放五百牛，隨逐水草。

"At that time, Prince Kalyāṇamitra's eyes had been pierced, and the dry bamboo thorns remained stuck in them, with no one to pull them out. Stumbling and wandering about, he did not know where to go. Suffering bitterly at that time, grievously afflicted by hunger and thirst, he could neither live nor die. Moving forward step by step, he arrived in the kingdom of King Ṛṣabha. King Ṛṣabha had a daughter who had previously been promised in marriage to Prince Kalyāṇamitra of the king of Vārāṇasī. King Ṛṣabha had a herdsman named Liucheng, who pastured five hundred cattle for King Ṛṣabha, following the water and grass.
