"[If you say,] 'This reprimand is unreasonable … that they differ in possession'" is the explanation. This is because matter of vijñapti is dull and obscure, and arises dependent on another, namely the mind. The mind and so forth are sharp and clear, and do not arise dependent on another. "And so forth" means including the mental factors (caittas). The two indeterminate minds are inferior compared to wholesome and unwholesome minds. Indeterminate vijñapti-karma arises from an inferior mind; its power is doubly inferior to that of the mind which can generate it, and that is why it does not possess [it in] the past or the future. Therefore, vijñapti and mind differ in possession, and cannot be cited as parallel examples. Furthermore, the *Nyāyānusāra* says: "This reprimand is unreasonable, because what is produced is inferior to the mind that produces it. Why is that? As an indeterminate mind can produce vijñapti-karma, yet the produced vijñapti-karma does not produce avijñapti, hence we know that what is produced is inferior to the producing mind."
