On the Śāstra's 'In which stage how many knowledges are cultivated simultaneously?': below this is the seventh major section, explaining the cultivation of knowledges. Within this there are six: first, explaining the path of seeing; second, explaining the path of cultivation; third, explaining the path of the non-learner; fourth, explaining the refinement of faculties, and so forth; fifth, explaining the scope and limitation of stages; sixth, explaining the four kinds of cultivation. The following two stanzas are the first, explaining the path of seeing. Intending to explain cultivation, one must know the meaning of cultivation. The Nyāyānusāra states: 'One should first deliberate: what is called cultivation? It means repeatedly practicing conditioned wholesome [phenomena] so as to bring them to fulfillment and mastery (this is the meaning of cultivation). It is not defiled or indeterminate ones, because they lack superior, agreeable results. It is not unconditioned wholesome ones, because they do not reside within a continuous series, and also because the unconditioned has no result.' Now, I offer an additional explanation: because the unconditioned has neither increase nor decrease.
