The passage of the śāstra from “Cultivating supernormal knowledges in the trainee state” up to “all cultivate eight knowledges” explains the trainee's cultivation of supernormal knowledges. Because the five uninterrupted paths are not contemplation of principle, conventional knowledge is presently cultivated; because they mutually induce one another, seven are cultivated in the future, excluding [knowledge of] another's mind, exhaustion, and non-arising. Of the five liberation paths, two are indeterminate and are not called cultivation. The two liberation paths of past lives and divine base, as well as the five preparatory paths, are all not contemplation of principle, and thus are solely conventional. Because the liberation path of [knowledge of] another's mind is pure, the knowledges of dharma, subsequent, path, conventional, and another's mind presently arise according to applicability. All distinguished paths are like [that of] knowledge of another's mind, further adding suffering, origin, and cessation presently cultivated according to applicability, hence it says “together with.” In the trainee's cultivation of supernormal knowledges, with the exception of the five uninterrupted paths, all others in the future cultivate eight knowledges, excluding exhaustion and non-arising, because they have not yet been attained.
