17.24

貪邪見成就者，於此地獄中，此二成就而不現行。無可愛境，貪不現行。現見業果，邪見不起。又地獄中業盡死故，無殺業道。無攝財物，無盜業道。無攝女人，無邪婬罪。業鏡現前，不可拒諱，以無用故，無虛誑語。即由此無用及常離故，無離間語。

'Greed and wrong view are possessed' means that in these hells, these two are possessed but do not manifest. Lacking attractive objects, greed does not manifest. Directly seeing the fruit of karma, wrong view does not arise. Furthermore, because in the hells one dies only when one's karma is exhausted, there is no karmapatha of killing. Since they do not gather wealth, there is no karmapatha of stealing. Since they do not take wives, there is no fault of sexual misconduct. With the mirror of karma right before them, they cannot deny or conceal [their deeds]; because it serves no purpose, there is no false speech. For this very reason of serving no purpose, and because they are constantly isolated, there is no divisive speech.
