基師解云:非行生生則小生也。是行生生即大生也。汝若言大生小生異者,即應小生亦似大生應能生色,大生生色法亦能生小生,小生生大生應亦生色法,故小生非行生能生色法,應是大生行生,故二生異不應道理。
Master [Kui]ji explains: The arising of that which is not a conditioned phenomenon is the minor arising. The arising of that which is a conditioned phenomenon is the major arising. If you say that the major arising and the minor arising are different, then the minor arising should, like the major arising, also be able to give rise to matter; the major arising gives rise to material phenomena and is also able to give rise to the minor arising; the minor arising gives rise to the major arising and should also give rise to material phenomena. Therefore, if the minor arising, not being the arising of conditioned phenomena, can give rise to material phenomena, it should be the major arising which is the arising of conditioned phenomena; thus it is unreasonable for the two arisings to be different.
