基云:對法意唯不合能取者,以自塵為門故,此中以五根為門故通合不合,無相違也。法界應言一分合不合能取,此法界一分故略不論,大乘七八非合不合取。

Ji said: In the Abhidharma, the mind is solely capable of grasping without contact because it takes its own sense object as the perspective; here, it takes the five faculties as the perspective, so it encompasses both contact and non-contact, without contradiction. As for the dharma-element, it should be said that a portion is capable of grasping both upon contact and without contact; being a small portion of the dharma-element, it is briefly not discussed. In the Mahāyāna, the seventh and eighth [consciousnesses] grasp neither upon contact nor without contact.
