今能取中,如《對法抄》第四,意唯不合能取。此中通合不合者,此中以五根為門故,通合不合,彼以自塵為門故,唯不合,無相違也。法界應言一分合能取,此法界一分,故略不論。大乘七八非合不合取。

Now, regarding 'capable of grasping': as stated in the fourth fascicle of the *Abhidharmasamuccaya Commentary*, the mind grasps only without contact. Here, where it encompasses both contact and non-contact: because here the five faculties serve as the approach, it encompasses both contact and non-contact; whereas there the specific dust serves as the approach, so it is strictly without contact, and there is no contradiction. In the dharma element, one should say that one portion grasps through contact; since this is only one portion of the dharma element, it is omitted from discussion. In the Mahāyāna, the seventh and eighth [consciousnesses] grasp neither through contact nor through non-contact.
