Ji says: In past lifetimes, the fruit of maturation (vipākaphala) and the fruit of dominance (adhipatiphala) are called "already arisen"; the fruit that accords with its cause (niṣyandaphala) is called "already equally arisen," because "equal" (sama) means similarity. Abiding in the present and arising is called "whether about to arise"; abiding in the future is called "whether occurring." Regarding "hindered by obstruction, that is, darkness and the like": there are three kinds: first, darkness, which is dark form; second, the darkness of ignorance, which confuses objects due to delusion; third, unclarified dark form, that is, walls and screens. If it is clear and transparent form, such as lapis lazuli, it is not an obstruction; though separated, it can still be seen.
