基云：散他多衍尼子，即迦旃延字，迦多延尼名為種姓，婆羅門十八姓中即一姓也，如四姓中之李姓也，散他者即種姓中別一種姓，如一李中有其多種，謂趙郡隴西諸差別也。

Ji says: "Sāntakātyāyanīputra is the courtesy name of Kātyāyana; Kātyāyanī is the name of the gotra, one clan among the eighteen Brahmin clans, just like the surname Li among the four clans. 'Sānta' is a particular sub-lineage within the clan, just as within the single Li [clan] there are multiple branches, namely the distinctions between Zhaojun, Longxi, and so forth."
