11.79

論云「又不告曰不令覺知，如棄捨法施糜飯等乃至不合儀施，菩薩不為」者，謂如有人先不食葱，不自他心知，如布施之法而與之葱，菩薩不為；乃至廣說非直此葱不施於彼，亦不以此置金銀器，不合儀式諸事業等而施於彼，是此中意也。又如撩擲法而施糜飯，不敬於彼，菩薩不為；不正威儀而施於彼，菩薩不為。

The treatise says: "Moreover, not telling them so as not to let them be aware, giving gruel or cooked rice as if discarding it […] up to: giving that does not accord with propriety, the bodhisattva does not do": this means, for instance, if there is a person who previously did not eat alliums, and without knowing the other person's mind, one gives him alliums as a practice of giving, the bodhisattva does not do this; up to explaining in detail that not only does one not give these alliums to him, one also does not place them in gold or silver vessels, or give them to him through any actions that do not accord with propriety; this is the meaning here. Furthermore, giving gruel or cooked rice as if tossing or throwing it, not respecting him, the bodhisattva does not do; giving to him without upright decorum, the bodhisattva does not do.
