Under conceit, "high, not high, superior, and inferior toward the external and internal": "high and low" apply to the external; "superior and inferior" apply to the internal. Being "low toward the external" refers to the conceit of inferiority; being "high toward the external" refers to the other three conceits, because conceit of superiority, wrong conceit, and conceit of "I" do not take the external as object. "Superior toward the internal" refers to six conceits—holding the self high, claiming virtues one lacks, claiming few virtues as many, and so forth—because all are internal superiority. The single conceit of inferiority is called internal inferiority, because one is inferior to others.
