第三難云「緣彼現前和合色境眼識起時」等者，此中問意：眼識現在緣色之時，住昔曾起耳等識法為滅為轉？若言轉者，於曾所起百千境識，由今現在一色境界，依一切時位，彼諸識皆起，便違正理。

The third challenge says, "When the eye-consciousness arises taking that present, composite visible object as its ālambana" and so forth: the meaning of the question here is: when the eye-consciousness is presently taking form as its object, do the dharmas of ear-consciousness and so forth that arose in the past cease or do they operate? If one says they operate, then for the consciousnesses of hundreds of thousands of past objects, due to a single present visible object, at all times and states those consciousnesses would all arise, which contradicts correct reason.
