The fourth refutation says, "The conceived self is made by perception and made by feeling" and so forth: this reveals that both dharmas—perception and feeling—are what belongs to the self. Because these two affect and act upon the self, the self at times has a single perception, and so on; therefore, perception and feeling are called the agents, and the self is the object made. It is just as wealth in the world affects sentient beings, so that sentient beings, sometimes taking little wealth and so forth as an object, give rise to greed, anger, and so forth. This is also like that; it does not mean that the self did not exist previously and only began to exist after being made by perception and feeling.
