21. Regarding "Constituents concomitant with pleasant feeling and a portion of constituents not concomitant with feeling are subsumed under the suffering of change," and so forth: that [text] says that a small portion of eleven are subsumed under the suffering of change; in the state of old age and death there is mostly no pleasant feeling, and since change is established based on pleasure, it is not mentioned; this refers to the constituents that do not associate with the feeling-constituent. 'A portion' refers to those concomitant with pleasant feeling; since change is established based on pleasure, it is said to be 'a portion'. A small portion of twelve are subsumed under the suffering of pain, because within all constituents there is painful feeling; since the suffering of pain is established based on painful feeling, it is said to be 'a portion'. All twelve in their entirety are subsumed under the suffering of conditioned existence (saṃskāra-duḥkhatā), because all contaminated phenomena are the suffering of conditioned existence. Spoken in terms of equanimous feeling, a small portion of eleven—excluding the constituent of old age and death—previously only ten were concomitant with neither-pain-nor-pleasure, but now adding the constituents not concomitant with feeling, it is said to be a small portion of eleven. As with the actual meaning above, thus among various sacred teachings, according to the prominence of characteristics, what is stated is not uniform; that is, the texts of the Pratītyasamutpāda-sūtra and the Daśabhūmika-sūtra differ, as explained in the eighth fascicle of the Commentary on the Vijñaptimātratā.
