In the summary of meaning: "the nature of possibility and impossibility" is because wholesome and unwholesome causes and fruits arise in harmonious accordance. "Made by one's own karma" is because it is not made by another, nor is it uncaused. "The teacher does what ought to be done for the disciple" is because of the dharmas of instruction and admonition. "The meaning of what the disciples themselves must do" is because, relying on the teacher's instruction, they cultivate the dharmas of abandoning. "The causal conditions that accord with bad morality and perforated morality": what can produce bad bodily and verbal actions is called the causal condition of bad morality, which is what was formerly called bad śīla. Because it defiles and corrupts wholesome morality, it is called bad morality, not that the essence of morality itself is bad. Transgressing the root of wholesome moralities is called the causal condition of perforated morality, which is improper signs. "Improper signs" refers to improper attention (ayoniso manaskāraḥ), afflictions, and so forth. The four meanings in the summary correspond above in the same way. The commentary on this verse explains only the first half.
