8.161

論曰「當知此中定根、定力即四靜慮乃至證不還果」等者，此中，初二果唯得未至，向前次第至不還，得四靜慮，發生神通，故此偏說。不說第四果，非次第故。又影顯故，又略不說故，四靜慮中發生神通如意是，不說餘定。

The treatise says: "One should know that here the faculty of concentration and the power of concentration are the four dhyānas, up to realizing the fruit of non-returner," and so forth. Here, the first two fruits only attain the unarrived [dhyāna]; progressing forward stage by stage to the non-returner, one attains the four dhyānas and generates supernormal knowledges, so this is particularly stated. It does not mention the fourth fruit because it is not in stage-by-stage sequence. Furthermore, it is because [the higher] is implicitly shown, and also because it is omitted for brevity; within the four dhyānas, the generation of the supernormal knowledge of base of psychic power is this, and other concentrations are not mentioned.
