"Desire-realm innate gives rise to seven;
having attained absorption, perhaps nine or ten.
It arises from ten itself;
expedient also definitely [gives rise to] seven.
First attaining absorption, it gives rise to nine;
with mastery, it brings forth thirteen;
arising from others is also like this.
Unwholesome [gives rise to] seven of its own ground;
for the other realms there are two explanations.
It arises from seven each of its own and higher [grounds];
defiled is similarly twelve;
from others, sixteen arise.
Regarding birth-and-death and such distinctions:
maturation only gives rise to nine—
its own seven, and two defiled;
it also arises from its own seven.
Deportment and craftsmanship definitely [give rise to] nine,
or fifteen, which is not fixed.
Both arise from others and their own seven;
the upper two realms are indeterminate."
